Crescent University, Abeokuta law students beat Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye law students, to emerge as winners of the recent Bola Ajibola College of Law Inter-university Moot Court Competition with Chief Magistrate O. L. Ojo of Ogun State Judiciary, as Presiding Judge. The presiding judge is an alumnus of Olabisi Onabanjo University.

It was a murder case and Crescent University team of Victor Ogunsiji (Lead Counsel), Omobolaji  Adeshina, and Aliyat Alao appeared for the defendants, while Olabisi Onabanjo team of Iretomiwa Adesanya, Esther Popoola, and Tiana Adeleke appeared as prosecuting counsel.

The defence team presented three witnesses in the course of the trial. The defence counsel raised several preliminary objections aimed at undermining the prosecution’s case, while also demonstrating exceptional cross-examination skills in discrediting the prosecution’s witnesses and evidence.

At the close of the prosecution’s case, the defence raised a no-case submission, on the ground of insufficiency of the evidence presented. Although the court overruled this initial objection, the defence team remained undeterred. Upon opening their case, the defence called their three witnesses and made their final submission.

Upon conclusion of the trial, the court found in favour of the defence. The defendant was accordingly discharged and acquitted.
